Dharamshala now really has become international, with a number of Tibetan settlements and the residence of Noble Laureate the 'Dalai Lama'. Dharamshala is devided into two distinct parts : lower Dharamshala the civil and business area with Courts and Kotwali bazar and upper Dharamshala composed of places like Mcleod Ganj and Forsyth Ganj. DAY 5: DHARAMSHALA
Morning after breakfast proceed to visit: The private Residence of the Dalai Lama, Tibetan Buddhist monastery and the museum which throws light on the rich heritage of the Tibetans.

Namgyal monastery, also called Namgyal Dratsang in local language, was founded by Sonam Gyasto, the third Dalai Lama in 1575. The aim behind the monastery was to assist Dalai Lama in his public religious activities and perform prayers for welfare of Tibet. The monastery had also been teaching the young Buddhist monks and Lamas. After Chinese invasion on Tibet, many Tibetan monks fled to India and Nepal. Those coming to India prefered staying at Dharamshala and adjoining areas. The residence of Dalai Lama was shifted to Mcleodganj, and it was the time when the site of original monastery was shifted outside the residence of Dalai Lama. The monastery complex consists of a institute, monastery and small temples.

Tibet Museum has the credit of being the first modern Museum in Dharamsala. The Museum is settled in a huge plinth area with separate places for meeting, exhibitions and displays. The Museum is a real example of original Tibetan architectural style blended with modern style of constructions. Overnight stay at the hotel.
